about

Nantucket Bay Scallops have been caught in the waters around Nantucket and Tuckernuck for generations. And these small shellfish are still prized today for their sweet and luxurious flavor. What was once a major industry on the island has been threatened by overdevelopment and overuse of our harbors and surrounding waters. Today a much smaller number of fishermen brave the winter weather and dredge for bay scallops. And with the COVID-19 pandemic, fewer restaurants are ordering these prized shellfish.

The goal of this website is to raise awareness of the bountiful scallop resource and improve demand for this unique wild-caught product so that more fishermen can earn a living bringing Nantucket Bay Scallops to market. This site is a free service of the Nantucket Shellfish Association which is a non-profit organization created to preserve and protect Nantucket’s water quality, harbors, and shellfish resources. We rely upon both membership dues and generous donations to do this work. Please visit nantucketshellfish.org to learn more and see how you can help.
